Traditionally, when not undergoing political upheaval, the Maldives is a destination that prides itself on being a generally high-end romantic getaway. However, even in the midst of a constitutional crises, romance is a vital component to the Maldives; so on Valentines day, some resorts are trying to up their game when it comes to getting in the mood for good old fahioned amour.
For the
W Retreat in North Ari Atoll, luxury is seen to be the key in trying to make what, for many, is the most romantic day of the year that little bit more... well romantic.
“The setting is very romantic naturally, so we enhance the atmosphere by making sure all of the events feel very exclusive,” a spokesperson for the resort has told Dhonisaurus.
This Valentine's Day in particular, the resort, which is operated by Starwood Hotels, is offering guests in a more romantic frame of mind two different packages designed to help them celebrate their evening together.
These include a specially prepared six course meal at the resort's FISH restaurant - replete with a sunset cocktail session that the resort believes adds a very distinctive romantic appeal to the occasion.
“With dishes like mango and rose water sorbet and white chocolate soup, dark chocolate croutons, with salted butter ice cream, Chef Mauro Gomez’s menu has an added touch of romance for this special day,” the resort told Dhonisaurus..
For guests interested in having more of a nautical adventure, W has also offered customers the opportunity to take part on a special cruise on the resort's own yacht to a candlelit retreat hidden on a desert-island.
“Our evening sail and private dinner on [the island of] Gaathafushi is limited to only 10 couples. The secluded atmosphere that we create on Gaathafushi really allows couples to really feel like they are the only two people on the island,” the W spokesperson added.
The romantic yacht excursion, in order to try and maintain a sense of seclusion, has been limited to just ten couples at a cost of US$1,000 per two people. The six course dinner was available for US$175 per person.
According to W, the popularity of Valentine's Day among its guests had led to management looking to provide new ways to celebrate every year.
“We find exciting ways to help our returning guests celebrate with a new experience,” the spokesperson claimed.
